You shouldn't have to remove anything to adjust the idle. There's a flathead screw on the side of the unit that you can twist... clockwise idles up, counter-clockwise idles down I believe.
The only thing I've ever had to move is the ABS vacuum hose to get clearance for a long screwdriver.
